3rd Grade News

As you know this will be a busy week with lots of scheduled activities each day.  Therefore, I think it is best to have a review week rather than jump into new things when we have so much going on.  For the most part, everyone did well on their math test; all of the problems on the test were taken directly from classwork that we had already done.  Some students continue to struggle with elapsed time and word problems, but honestly, I think it comes down to them not slowing down and really reading the questions.  I always tell them to read a problem twice before answering it; this way they are positive about what is being asked.  During reading this week we will read Henry’s Freedom Box and do an activity that goes along with the story.  If they get the activity done in time, it will be on display for the open house Wednesday morning.  We will also read some science articles about African American history.

Last week we never got to our series of science experiments; we will save that for next week.  Students used their time working on their biography papers and lapbooks. The kids are so excited for Wednesday, and they have been working really hard.  We hope to see you all Wednesday morning.  Don’t forget, odds perform at 8:15 and evens perform at 8:45.
