Grades K-8 Curriculum Overview

Purpose – Students at Saint John the Baptist School will be engaged in not only technology skills mastery but also their application and knowledge of different software packages as they come to understand and value technology as a tool for communication, productivity, research, and problem solving. The attached SJB Technology Curriculum Guidelines document supports the detail tasks for students, Kindergarten through Grade 8.

Kindergarten Lessons: These are the core lessons I will use to employ the attached set of kindergarten skills.

Classroom rules of handling and care of the computer.

Using television monitor presentations / dry board/ posters teach the parts of the computer. Using the above aids, students will learn how to properly turn on and off the computer and how to access the internet.

Lessons on abcya.com will be used to teach mouse function, keyboard familiarity and deepen computer terminology.

Starfall.com will be used to enhance letter recognition

Introduction to PowerPoint (open and familiarize, and create simple slideshow)

Fourth Grade Lessons: These are the core lessons I will use to employ the attached set of fourth grade skills.

Introduction to Rube Goldberg and his intricate machines (STEM) Students will solve engineering puzzles and have an opportunity to create their own machines using classroom software.
